lyrics. The official music video, directed by Gus Van Sant, features striking imagery of Los Angeles, including Kiedis walking through the city and performing against colorful, surreal backdrops that reflect the song’s emotional connection to the City of Angels. Released as a single in 1992, “Under the Bridge” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of Red Hot Chili Peppers’ biggest mainstream hits. Its success helped introduce the band’s distinctive blend of alternative rock, funk rock, and introspective songwriting to a wider audience. Produced by Rick Rubin, Blood Sugar Sex Magik marked a major turning point in the band’s career, featuring RHCP classics like “Give It Away,” “Suck My Kiss,” and “Breaking the Girl.” Alongside later hits such as “Californication,” “Scar Tissue,” and “Otherside,” “Under the Bridge” remains one of the band’s most recognizable and enduring recordings.
